Inside out turning by Mike Law

At the December 2011 meeting club member Mike Law demonstrated the technique of inside out turning for a lamp shade base.

4 pieces of timber were glued together and turned to a carefully prepared template, finished and polished, then separated, rotated and glued permanently together with the turned surfaces now on the inside. The outside was then turned again very carefully then finished and polished.

The top end was separated from the block end by turning down to the centre, the bottom end was first marked whilst still on the lathe then sawn off after removal from the lathe.
